“Give it some more power.” Exactly! You have heard it many times over in just about every single expert or enthusiast review of the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ. TRD (Toyota Racing Development) came to the rescue to deliver some nice add-ons for the Toyota GT86, the Japanese version of what we know as the Scion FR-S, but failed to endow the well-capable chassis with any extra power. Basically, it is a half-way done attempt to sell a few more units, which isn’t going to fly with those who thirst for what is really missing. Fortunately, HKS stepped up to the plate to give us what we have all been begging for in the form of a supercharger bolted up to the 2.0-liter boxer 4-cylinder engine to produce 270 horsepower and 215 lb-ft of torque.
This quick spin review video below from Car Throttle sums up both vehicles, the pretty TRD one, and the powerful one. Hopefully Toyota is watching this and making plans to do something so they can sell these things and make us all happy in the process.
